Chairul Tanjung is the Founder and Chairman of CT Corp, Indonesia’s leading consumer focused business group.

In 2010, Mr. Tanjung was appointed as Chairman of the National Economic Committee by Indonesia’s President. The Committee provides actionable strategic recommendations to the President on how to develop Indonesia’s economy in an inclusive, balanced and sustainable manner. In addition, the Committee was a key contributor to the Government’s Masterplan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia Economic Development which was launched in 2011.
CT Corp focuses on three core industry sectors: (1) Financial Services; (2) Media, Retail, Lifestyle, and Entertainment; (3) Natural Resources.

In Financial Services, the Group includes Bank Mega, the largest privately Indonesian owned bank as well as the third largest and fastest growing credit card player, and Bank Syariah Mega Indonesia, a top syariah player that is a leader in the micro segment. Other companies include Mega Finance (consumer finance), Mega Life (life insurance), Mega Insurance (general insurance), and Mega Capital Indonesia (securities brokerage), Mega Capital Investama & Mega Asset Management (fund management).

The Group is the leading player in media, entertainment, retail and lifestyle. In Media, the Group launched Trans TV in 2001, which is an innovation and performance leader in the Indonesian television industry. In 2006, the Group acquired another nationwide free-to-air channel, Trans7, and quickly achieved record profits. The two stations are the most profitable in the country. In 2011, the Group acquired detik.com, Indonesia’s no. 1 online news portal.

In Retail, the Group acquired 40% stake in PT Carrefour Indonesia in 2010 to become the single largest shareholder in Indonesia’s leading retailer. In Lifestyle, the Group holds the exclusive franchise for over 25 international high-end fashion brands, operates almost 100 branded boutiques in Indonesia, and expanded into Thailand in 2008. Lifestyle also includes Coffee Bean and Baskin Robbins, leading travel agencies Antatour and Vayatour, and Metro, a top department store.

The Group is the leading entertainment player in Indonesia with two world-class integrated indoor theme parks, retail, and resort destinations. In Bandung, the Group’s Bandung Supermall and recently opened Trans Studio Bandung, will be joined later this year by the Group’s first two hotels – a six-star Trans hotel and a three-star Ibis hotel. The Group also has Trans Studio and Trans Mall in Makassar. 

In Natural Resource, CT Corp has investment in the palm oil sector.

Born in 1962, Mr. Tanjung has a bachelor’s degree in dental surgery from Universitas Indonesia and an MBA from Institut Pendidikan & Pengembangan Manajemen (Education and Management Development Institute).

His external roles include Chairman of the Indonesia National Kidney Foundation, Board Member of the Indonesian Committee for Humanitarian Programs, and Board of Trustees Universitas Airlangga.
